Obituary of Rev. Sheridan C Rainey

Rev. Sheridan C. Rainey, 95, formerly of Titusville, passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at 11:45 AM at Wesbury United Methodist Community.

               Rev. Sheridan was born on July 3, 1923 in Revloc, PA to the late Wilbur and Wilemina McMasters Rainey. He married Lauretta J. Pugh on September 7, 1946 at Indiana PA. She preceded him in death on December 26, 2001.

               Following his high school graduation he enlisted in the Air Force, flying 50 bombing missions as a radio operator, and aerial gunner on the B-17 flying fortress. He was awarded the 3-Oak Cluster medal for sustained operation against the enemy.

               When he was discharged from the service he worked for five years in the coal mines before entering Allentown Bible College, graduating with a B.A. in Religious Studies.

               He pastored churches for Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Conference from 1953-2014. Served as Finance Director, Mission Director, V.P. and President. He started mission work in Haiti, travelled there and to Peru, plus 47 states, the Holy Land and Italy.

               Rev. Rainey is survived by his two children; Cheryl Muir and husband Lowell of Centerville, and Steve Rainey and companion Francie Reese of Titusville; three grandchildren Beth McCreary and husband Sean of Lawrenceburg, KY, Lynne Muir and companion Mark of Las Vegas, and Brent Muir and wife Sarah of Titusville; eleven great grandchildren; nine nieces and nephews; a brother Wilbur Rainey of Dayton, PA

               He was preceded in death by an infant daughter; and two sisters Phyllis and Mary Rainey.

               As requested by Rev. Rainey, no public calling hours will be observed. A private funeral service for the family will be conducted at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home Inc. 303 N. Washington St. Titusville, with Rev. Doug Strawn and Rev. Mark Miller, officiating

               Interment will be at Jerusalem Corners Cemetery.
