Obituary of Samuel L. Dove
Samuel L. Dove, 89, of Titusville, passed away Sunday evening December 2, 2018 at St. Vincent Hospital in Erie.
Sam was born on October 21, 1929 in Titusville, a son of the late Samuel and Leona Dove. He was married to Barbara Howland in 1968 in Titusville. She preceded him in death on Sept. 22, 2002.
Sam was a graduate of Colestock High School. He was a veteran having served in the US Army in Korea from 1947 to 1951. He was honorably discharged with the rank of staff sergeant.
Sam had worked at the former Cyclops Specialty Steel Corp. for 30 years as a millwright until his retirement.
He and his wife had also operated Sam’s Restaurant from 1968 until 1988.
Sam was a member of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW. He was a volunteer for many years with the PA Fish Commission. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and trapper.
Sam is survived by a step-daughter, Gretchen Spurk and husband Ed of Bear Lake; a step-son, Donald Haenel and wife Debra of Fairview; a nephew, Jim Erickson of Meadville; and many step-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Sam was preceded in death by step-sons, Michael and Gary Haenel; two sisters, Lois G. Dove and Ida May Dove Erickson; and a brother, John M. Dove.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM and attend the funeral service there on Friday at 11:00 AM with Rev. William Hopkins officiating. Full military rites will be conducted.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
