Obituary of Phyllis E. Beers

Mrs. Phyllis E. Beers, 91, passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at her daughter’s residence on E. Spruce St. in Titusville.

Mrs. Beers was born on March 6, 1927, in Titusville to the late Harry A. and Gladys (Masiker) Ewing. She married Gerald W. Beers on September 4, 1946, at the Free Methodist Church. Mr. Beers preceded her in death on September 10, 2011.

Mrs. Beers was a devoted follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. She shared that love by teaching Sunday school classes, nurturing children, singing, writing, and reaching out to anyone in need. Her poem “Parental Ritual” was published in Forever and a Day: The National Library of Poetry. She was also a gifted artist in oils. Those who knew her best remember her obvious joy and buoyant sense of humor throughout her life.

She attended the First Baptist Church for the past 3 years with her daughter and son-in-law.

She was a graduate of Pleasantville High School. She received a B.A. degree from California State University San Bernardino in 1993. Mrs. Beers was a teacher’s aide in the San Bernardino School District and operated her own day care in Rialto, CA for many years. Some of her students, long since grown, continued to keep in touch with her throughout her life. One wrote: “I will forever be grateful that Mrs. Beers shared the gospel with me – a 7 year old in her day care. Then she discipled me for years and showed me the love of Christ.”

Mrs. Beers is survived by her children: Noel Beers of Sharon, Gladys Sharp and husband Tom of Titusville, Lowell Beers and wife Cindy of Fort Mill, SC; 7 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; 2 brothers: Harold Ewing and wife Nancy of Pleasantville, Howard Ewing and wife Cordy of Overland Park, KS; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Beers was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Margery Fox Beers; three brothers: Richard, Les, and Robert Ewing; and a sister, Fannie Gilson.

A committal of ashes will be in Union Cemetery on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at 3:30 with Pastor Brian Borger officiating. An invitation is extended to all who would like to attend.

A memorial service for family and friends will be celebrated at the First Baptist Church, with the date and time to be announced. Memorial contributions may be made to your favorite children’s charity in memory of Mrs. Beers.
