Obituary of Thomas R. Oney, Sr.

Thomas R. Oney, Sr., 89, formerly of Pleasantville, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2019 at the Titusville Area Hospital.

            Tom was born on February 9, 1929 at Stroudsburg, PA, a son of the late Harold and Mary Elizabeth Nolan Oney. 

            Tom was a graduate of the East Stroudsburg High School.  He was a veteran having served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1952.

            Tom had been employed at the former Triangle Shoe Store for 17 years and at Heist Furniture for 7 years.  He was co-owner of “The Candlelight” in Pleasantville with Bob Schultz from 1977 to 1989.

            Tom was a member of St. Walburga Church and of the church counsel.  He was a member of the Pleasantville Lions Club from 1981 to 1999 serving as secretary.  He was also a member of the Cleo J. Ross Post No. 368 American Legion.

            Tom is survived by a daughter, Lynae Henderson of Simi Valley, CA; three sons, Keith D. Oney and wife Karen of Pleasantville, Thomas R. Oney, Jr. and companion Patty Foster of Sarasota, FL, and Michael Oney-Nipert of Sarasota, FL; grandchildren, Robert Oney and wife Geovnelle of Sarasota, FL, Jesse Oney and girlfriend Olivia of Sarasota, FL, Michelle Reimer and husband Eric of Splendora, TX, and Brian Oney and wife Andrea of Pineville, NC; great grandchildren, Lyndzie, Kylie, Cora and Derek Oney, and Trinity and Hailey Reimer; great great grandchildren, Ramsey and Lillith; his close friend of 58 years and business partner, Robert Schultz of Titusville; a brother, Maurice L. Oney of Richmond, VA., and numerous nieces and nephews.

            In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Mabel Oney; his former wife, Jacqueline Kresge-Nipert; two sisters, Catherine Smith and Marian Berger; and a brother, Richard Oney.

            Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Thursday from 6 to 8 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 AM at St. Walburga Church with Fr. Walter Packard as celebrant.

            Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Pleasantville.

            The family asks that memorials be made to the Pleasantville Volunteer Fire Dept. or to any local chapter of the Humane Society.
