Obituary of Thomas Melvin Shriver
Thomas M. Shriver, 89, of Titusville, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 8, 2019.
Tom was born on April 19, 1929 in Titusville, a son of the late Dean and Elizabeth Buchan Shriver. He was married to Dorothea Ann Cubbon on Nov. 19, 1950 in Titusville.
Tom was a graduate of Titusville High School, class of 1947. He was a veteran having served in the US Army during the Korean War. He entered the service on Jan. 16, 1951 in Erie, PA. While in Korea he served as a paratrooper with the 187th Airborne R.T.C and was honorably discharged on Dec. 19, 1952 at Ft. Custer, MI with the rank of Corporal.
As a young man, Tom traveled across the country working various jobs eventually returning to Titusville where he was employed at the former Universal Cyclops Steel Corp for over 40 years until his retirement.
Tom was a member of the Pleasantville United Methodist Church and also a member of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW.
An avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan, he took up tennis after retirement and enjoyed playing with his friends.
Tom is survived by his wife, Ann of Titusville; a son, Eric of Titusville; a brother, Richard Shriver and wife Betty of Titusville; a sister, Mary Jean Nichols of Titusville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy J. Shriver; a sister, Grace Ann Nichols; a step-mother, Nancy Grace Davison Shriver; and seven step-siblings, Claire, Wayne, Richard, Jack, Dean, Mary Lou and Maxine Davison.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday at the Pleasantville United Methodist Church from 12:00 to 2:00 PM with a memorial service starting at 2:00 PM.
