Obituary of John Holtz
John W. “Augie” Holtz, 90, of Pleasantville, passed away Thursday morning February 7, 2019 at The Caring Place in Franklin.
Augie was born on December 31, 1928 in Titusville, a son of the late John and Florine Folwell Holtz. He was married to Lorraine Graff on November 21, 1950 in Oil City.
Augie was a graduate of Pleasantville High School, class of 1946.
He was a veteran having served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
Augie had been employed for over 30 years at Quaker State until his retirement in 1991. He was also owner of the former Exxon Station in Barkeyville.
Augie was a member of the Oil City Lodge of Perfection; a member of the Titusville Lodge No. 754 F.&A.M.; and a member of New Castle Consistory. He was previously a member of the Grove City Lodge F.&A.M. He had recently earned his 50 year masonic membership pin.
He was also a member of the Pleasantville Lions Club; a former member of the former Pleasantville I.O.O.F. He was a member of the Memorial Day Committee at Fairview Cemetery.
Augie was a member of the Friends at Drake Well and a volunteer at Drake Well Park for many years. He was instrumental in the maintenance of the historic McClintock Well No. 1.
He enjoyed restoring gas engines from oil leases.
Augie is survived by his wife of Pleasantville; a daughter, Deb Nygard and husband Kort of Gallatin, TN; three sons, Timothy Holtz and wife Beth of Austin, PA, Lee Holtz and wife Anna of Garner, NC, and John Holtz and wife Katie of Pittsburgh; grandchildren, Christian Mostert and wife Tiffany and their sons Lucas and Dylan; Brendon Mostert and wife Elena Schwab and their sons Beckett, Asher, Reid and August “Augie”; Alicia Holtz and husband Britton VanVleek; and Ulana Holtz.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Holtz; a brother, Kenneth Holtz; and a sister, Barbara Burgason.
Honoring Augie’s request no public calling hours will be observed. A private memorial service for the family will be held at a later date.
Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.
