Obituary of Gayle F. McNamara Oviatt

Mrs. Gayle F. McNamara Oviatt, 77, of Titusville, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Hospice of the Valley in Surprise, AZ.

            Gayle was born in Titusville, PA on January 7, 1942 to the late Eugene “Brud” and Dorothy McCann McNamara.

            Mrs. Oviatt married the late Brian T. Oviatt on January 19, 1963 at St. Titus Church where she was a member.

            She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 1959.  After graduation, she attended Spencer Hospital School of Nursing in Meadville where she earned her Registered Nurse license.

            Mrs. Oviatt began her nursing career at the Titusville Hospital and later became an instructor of the Practical Nursing and Nurse’s Aide programs at Venango County Area Vocational-Technical School where she worked until her retirement.

            Gayle enjoyed traveling and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and family.  She was an avid bridge player and served as a volunteer for several community organizations including the Titusville/St. Joseph Alumni Board and the Titusville Hospital.

            Mrs. Oviatt is survived by her four loving children; Lisa Garon and husband Steve of Surprise, AZ, Shawn Oviatt and wife Tina of Hudson, OH, Karen Oviatt of Durham, NC, and Kevin Oviatt and wife Amy of Meadville; seven grandchildren; Chad and Shane Garon, Mia and Ian Oviatt, and Ainsley, Brody, and Simon  Oviatt.  She is also survived by four siblings; Craig McNamara and wife Linda of Wadsworth, OH, Gene McNamara and wife Lisa of Erie, Sue Lucas and husband Bob of Titusville, and Jane Corey and husband Jim of Titusville.  She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Mike Oviatt and wife Kim of Titusville; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

            She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

           Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville, PA on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM and attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 10 AM at St. Titus Church with Fr. Walter E. Packard as celebrant.

           Interment will be in St. Catharines Cemetery.

           The family asks that memorials be made to St. Titus Church, Titusville Area Hospital, or to the Lupus Foundation of America.
