Obituary of Phyllis C. Kephart
Ms. Phyllis C. “Kep” Kephart, 87, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2019, at Southwood’s Assisted Living Community.
Ms. Kephart was born on April 8, 1931, in Philadelphia to the late Harry S. and Eva M. Clark Kephart.
She was a graduate of Ocean City High School in Ocean City, NJ class of 1949, and the University of Pittsburgh in 1953, with a teaching degree.
Kep was immediately hired by the Titusville Area School district where she taught health and physical education at the Jr. High School. She retired after 37 years of teaching in June of 1990. During Kep’s summer breaks, she would return, to her home of Somers Point, NJ, and worked at the same family run business, Young’s Candies, on the boardwalk for many years.
She attended the First United Methodist Church, was a volunteer at the Titusville Area Hospital auxiliary, delivered meals on wheels, and was a longtime member of the YWCA auxiliary.
Kep loved playing bingo, supporting Rocket sports, going to the beach, long walks and spending time with her friends.
She is survived by her Titusville family: Thomas and Kelley Sauber of Carrollton, VA and their sons: Jake, Sam, Eli, and Noah, Julie and Jeff Dibble of Ellicott City, MD and their daughters: Olivia and Adeleine, Alan and Laurie Sauber of Charlotte, NC and their children, Amy and Nathan.
Kep was preceded in death by a brother, Stanley Kephart of Princeton, NJ.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St., Titusville, PA 16354 on Monday from 6 to 8 PM and Tuesday from 10 to 11 AM with a service to follow conducted by Rev. Larry Reitz pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will be in St. Catharine’s Cemetery.
