Obituary of Merle D Whitman
Mr. Merle D. Whitman, 86, of Titusville, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
He was born in Meadville to the late Harold L. and Rosa Werger Whitman.
Merle graduated from East Hickory High School.
Merle is a veteran of the United States Army. Having served during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged with rank of Corporal.
He married Betty Billig on November 26, 1955. She preceded him in death on July 13, 1990. He later married the late Sophia Miller.
Merle worked at Universal Cyclops Specialty Steel from 1956 to 1995 as a pipe fitter. He then worked at Universal Stainless & Alloys as a mill right until 2015.
He formerly attended the Church of the Nazarene.
Merle was a lifetime member of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW.
He loved to hunt and fish.
Merle is survived by two children, Ruth Ann Armstrong and husband Rick of Franklin, and Daniel Whitman and wife Jeannette of Grand Valley; four grandchildren, Jennifer Orr and husband Phil of Guys Mills, Sara Zdarko and husband Fred of Centerville, Emily Morris and husband Nate of Titusville, and Charles Lukach of Centerville; a sister, Bernice Vincent of Titusville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Whitman; and three sisters, Loraine Sparks, Delores Albaugh, and June Nelson.
Friends and family may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home, 303 N. Washington St., Titusville, PA 16354, on Thursday, March 28, 2019 from 6 to 8 PM, and Friday, March 29, 2019 from 10 to 11 AM, at which time the funeral service will be held with Pastor Frank Weingard, of the Deckers United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Neilltown Cemetery. Full military right will be observed.
