Obituary of Wayne E. Nuhfer

Wayne E. Nuhfer, 92, of Townville, passed away Sunday, June 9, 2019 at Wesbury United Methodist Community in Meadville.

            He was born on May 5, 1927 at Venus, PA, a son of the late Carl and Mabel Rex Nuhfer.  He was a graduate of Shippenville High School, class of 1944.  He then started working at Oil Well Supply Company in Oil City, PA.  In April of 1945 he joined the US Navy and served on the aircraft carrier USS Kearsarge.  He was honorably discharged in July of 1946.

            Wayne was married to Katherine V. Etzel on May 20, 1948 who preceded him in death on July 18, 2016.

            Wayne worked at Cleveland Twist Drill Company in Cleveland, OH from 1951 to 1965 starting in the heat treating department and from assistant foreman there to the Product Design and Application Department.

            In 1965 the family purchased a farm at Troy Center where they operated a dairy until April of 1972.  The family then moved to Townville where they became owners of the Red and White Store for 15 years.

            They were also foster parents in Ohio and Pennsylvania for twenty years.

            Wayne also worked at Polk Center on the dairy farm and in the milk processing plant until the state closed the farm operation in 1980.

            He then worked in the accounting department as a fiscal assistant at Polk Center until his retirement in July of 1989.

            While living in East Cleveland, OH, he was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and while living in Chardon, OH, a charter member of Peace Lutheran Church.  He was a past member of the Townville United Methodist Church.

            Wayne is survived by two sons, Steven Nuhfer and wife Dianna of Townville and Carl Nuhfer of Los Angeles, CA; three daughters, Vivian Mohl and husband William of Guys Mills, Kandy Foote and husband Victor of Meadville, and Anna Voller of Kittanning; 11 grandchildren, Jamie Copeland and wife Jennifer of Clifton, VA, Chad Copeland of Vienna, WV, Sean Nuhfer and wife Jennifer of Cambridge Springs, Angela Copeland Marshall and husband Kelly of Townville, Shannon Nuhfer and wife Rachel of Lexington Park, MD, Toni Skarzenski and husband Nick of Simpsonville, SC, Ryan Nuhfer and wife Stephanie of Erie, Wesley Foote and wife Ashley of Augusta, GA, Brett Foote stationed with the US Army in Alaska, Rachel Voller of Tarentum, and Kevin Voller of Pittsburgh; 14 great grandchildren, Logan Copeland, Kyle Nuhfer and wife Emily, Luke and Maya Marshall, Jackie and Sydney Copeland, Raegan Nuhfer, Lillian and Graham Nuhfer, William, Hannah and Charlotte Nuhfer, Jude Foote, and Tristan Skarzenski; a great great granddaughter, Natalie Nuhfer; ten step-great grandchildren, Owen, Ella, Livia and Ava Whiting, Klemen,Vera, Valentin, and Ivan Mohl, and Aden and Logan Bishop.

                        He is also survived by a brother Kenneth Nuhfer and wife Barbara of Butler; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

            In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Donald Nuhfer, and a sister, Betty Stewart.

            Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville, PA on Thursday from 6 to 8 PM.  Further visitation will be held on Friday at the funeral home from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at which time the funeral service will be conducted with Pastor Sam Marchetta of Wesbury United Methodist Community officiating.

            Interment will be in Kingsley Cemetery.
