Obituary of Carl "Gus" Gustafson

Carl “Gus” Gustafson, 76, of Titusville, passed away Tuesday afternoon June 25, 2019 at the Rouse Warren County Home following an extended illness.

            Gus was born on Dec. 7, 1942 at Pleasantville, PA, a son of the late Carl and Neva Muir Gustafson.  He was married to Lorraine Von Scheven on May 2, 2012 in Titusville, having been companions since 1982.

            Gus had attended a one room schoolhouse in Pleasantville for grades one to three, then the Pleasantville Elementary School, and was a graduate of Pleasantville High School, class of 1961.  He had attended Penn State Behrend having studied realty.

            Gus had been co-owner of the former Titusville Bargain Store.  He had been a real estate agent for Northern Realty; was a buyer of lumber for Blue Ox Lumber Company; had been an agent for American General Life Insurance Company; and had last worked part time with the Senior Citizen Agency Center in Titusville.

            Gus enjoyed walking, biking, golfing and sailing, and especially driving his Corvette.  He was proud to have built his own home where his hard work of landscaping earned him “Garden of the Month” several times.

            Gus was a member of the YMCA and of the B.P.O. Elks No. 264.  He was also a member of the Titusville Area Chamber of Commerce and of the American Cancer Society.

            Gus is survived by his wife of Titusville; three children, Shawn Gustafson and wife Jody of Centerville, Shane Gustafson of Titusville, and Shannon Nicol and husband Jason of Titusville; four grandchildren, Dustin Knapp, Destiny and Xaviera Nicol, and Mason Gustafson;  a sister, Jacquelyn Foster of Franklin; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

            In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Gustafson and wife Mary, two sisters, Marjorie Yochum and husband George and Evelyn Davison and husband Donald.

            The family will receive friends at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM.  No public funeral service will be conducted.  Interment will be in Jerusalem Corners Cemetery.

            The family asks that memorials be made to Alzheimer’s Association 1600 Peninsula Dr. Suite 15 Erie, PA  16505 or to the charity of one’s choice.
