Obituary of Jean Mehalko

Jean Mehalko, 90, of Titusville, passed away Wednesday evening July 3, 2019 at Country Acres Personal Care Home.

            Jean was born on Sept. 8, 1928 in Titusville, a daughter of the late Floyd and Esther Armstrong Proper.  She was married to George Mehalko on Feb. 14, 1953 at Chapmanville, PA.

            Jean had attended the Sunville School.  She had been employed in her earlier years at American Viscose Corp. in Meadville.

            Jean had attended Chapmanville Community Church and of the Chapmanville Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.  She enjoyed wintering in Florida with her husband for the past 30 years and always looked forward to spring when she returned home to tend to her gardens.  She enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends.  Jean also enjoyed the times she had boating on Conneaut Lake.

            She is survived by her husband George of Titusville; a son, Tom Peebles and Amy Ziegler of Oil City, and a daughter, Sonia Herz and husband Steve of Danville, CA; two grandsons, Nathaniel Herz and wife Kristi, and Jason Herz and wife Cassie; three great grandchildren, Ethan, Madison, and Nolan Herz; and several nieces and nephews.

            In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Proper and H. Dale Proper; and a sister, Lois Proper.

            Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville, PA on Monday from 4 to 7 PM.  Further visitation will be held on Tuesday at the Chapmanville Community Church from 10 to 11 AM at which time the funeral service will be conducted with Rev. Glen Van Cise officiating.

            Interment will be in Chapmanville Cemetery.

            The family asks that memorials be made to the Chapmanville Community Church or to the Chapmanville Volunteer Fire Dept. Auxiliary.
