Obituary of Leonard N. Dittman
Mr. Leonard N. “Len” Dittman, 82, of 15187 Kinsack Rd., Centerville died at 8:00 AM on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at his residence.
Mr. Dittman was born on Feb. 5, 1929, in Emlenton to the late Rellie and Blanche Downing Dittman. He married Bette Gilson on July 10, 1954 in Buffalo, NY.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1947 to 1953. During that time he was stationed in Korea, Japan and Germany. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Korean Medal w/clasp, Japan Medal w/clasp, Germany Medal w/clasp, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Cold War Medal.
Mr. Dittman returned home and worked for several area employers and retired from Keystone Honing where he worked as a machinist.
He was a former member of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW and the Cleo J. Ross Post 368 American Legion.
Mr. Dittman enjoyed gardening, hunting and taking care of his cats and dog.
He is survived by his wife Bette Dittman of Centerville; three children, Bobbie Gray and husband Wayne, Robert Dittman and wife Diane both of Titusville, Robin Deeter and husband Bill of Centerville; 8 grandchildren, Jennifer Atha and husband Rich, Brian Gray and wife Alice, Heather Bryan and husband Mike, Shanee Fay and husband Mike, Dawn Blake and husband Jeremy, William “Billy” Deeter and companion Aimee, David Deeter and wife Jayme, Jarrod Deeter and wife Stephanie; 14 great grandchildren, Caitlyn & Hannah Atha, Danielle & Cody Bryan, Lacey Elder, Lana Norris, Zach & Paige Blake, Brandon Deeter, Cristy McCann, Austin Deeter, Kearra Deeter, Nydia Deeter, and Devon Deeter; one brother,Walter Dittman and wife Janet of Greenwich, OH; five sisters, Gertrude Cotherman of Nickleville, Opal Shotting of Lawrence, Maxine Simpson of Emlenton, Shirley Smith of Cranberry, Donna Sheely and husband Jim of Pleasantville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Dittman was preceded in death by a daughter, Billie Jean Dittman who died in infancy; and two brothers, Eugene and Glenn Dittman.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St., Titusville on Thursday from 7 to 9 PM and on Friday from 1 to 2 PM with the service to follow conducted by Pastor Gary Kinnear, of the Breedtown Baptist Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Jerusalem Corners Cemetery.
