Obituary of Asa E. Williams
Asa E. Williams Jr., 69, passed away at 11:53 PM on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at his residence, 15997 Kinsack Rd., Centerville, surrounded by his wife and children after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
Asa was born on March 1, 1942 in Mansfield, OH to the late Asa E. Williams, Sr. and Isla Spangler Williams. He was married for almost 46 years to the former Judy Antill who survives.
He was a graduate of Townville High School, class of 1960. He also earned a degree from DeVry Institute in OH.
Asa served in the US Army from 1962 to 1964 when he was honorably discharged with the rank of Private First Class.
He was the owner and operator of Asa’s Auto Repair in Centerville for over 30 years. He also worked at Guy Fish Ford in Spartansburg for 17 years.
Asa was a member of the Cleo J. Ross Post 368 American Legion and a social member of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW, both of Titusville.
He enjoyed woodworking, boating, bird watching, and giving excellent service to his customers. He was known as an all around MacGyver who could fix or build whatever the task required. Asa especially loved being with his family and friends, playing practical jokes and making them laugh with his great sense of humor.
Asa is survived by his wife, Judy and dog, Socks of Centerville; four children, eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, a daughter, Holly Bunce and husband John, their heirs, Ashley and her children, Jordan and Lyndsie, Erica and her daughter, Jalynn, and John William all of Little Cooley; a daughter, Shanon Boutwell and husband Eric, their daughters, Stephanie and Brittney all of Union City; a daughter, Sharon Stroup and husband Gordon, their sons, Jacob and Ryan of Pleasantville and Jerod of FL; a son, Asa Williams III and wife Carissa, their sons, Asa IV, Dillan and Corbin of Titusville; a brother, Forrest and his wife Audrey of Lexington, OH; brothers-in-law, Anthony “Pete” Pitroff of Mansfield, OH, Dave Antill and wife Patrice of Erie; sisters-in-law, Christine Brenizer and Debra Miller of Titusville; special friends, Barbra and Tom Hoepfl, Mary and Dale Humes, Harvey Davis, Mike Panas; numerous nieces, nephews, and his many loyal friends and customers.He was preceded in death by his Parents, Mother and Father-in-law; a son, Jeffrey Lee Hoover; a foster son, Warren Walter “Rusty” Prince; three sisters, Delores Pitroff, Twyla Campbell, Jane Williams who died in infancy; and his faithful friend, Tae the dog.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St., Titusville on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Additional calling hours will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 to 11 AM with the service to follow conducted by Pastor Phil Taylor of the Grace Fellowship Church in Titusville, officiating.
Interment will be in Union Cemetery.
