Obituary of Jack R. Holcomb

Mr. Jack R. Holcomb, 71, of Omaha, Nebraska, died Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at his residence.He was born on October 6, 1939 at Titusville, PA, a son of the late Rex R. Holcomb and Marian Swanson Holcomb. Jack was a graduate of Titusville High School, class of 1957. Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy and served as a medic during the Vietnam Conflict. He was assigned to the US Marines Helicopter Rescue Squadron while serving in Vietnam. Following his discharge, Jack moved to Omaha, NE and was employed at Creighton University’s St. Joseph’s Hospital as a laboratory technician for 38 years until his retirement in 2007. Jack enjoyed all aspects of the railroad industry. He also enjoyed following the Nebraska “BIG RED” and Pittsburgh Steelers football teams. He was a member of the Rockbrook United Methodist Church where he served as head usher for over 25 years. He was a member of the Camerail Railroad Club for several years. He was also a former member of the World Tae Kwon Do Association of Omaha. Jack is survived by a sister, Jean Holcomb Hamilton of Little Cooley, PA, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Holcomb Swanson. Friends are invited to attend a committal service at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011 at Woodlawn Cemetery Chapel in Titusville with Rev. Darrell Greenawalt, pastor of the Girard United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery with full military rites.
