Obituary of Gerald W. Beers
Mr. Gerald W. Beers, 86, of 210 E. Main St. Titusville, died Saturday evening September 10, 2011 at his residence.
Mr. Beers was born on January 18, 1925 at Franklin, PA, a son of the late LeRoy and Frances Stillings Beers. He was married to Phyllis Ewing on Sept. 4, 1946 at the Free Methodist Church in Titusville.
Mr. Beers was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Army in the European Theatre. He later served in the National Guard.
Mr. Beers was a graduate of Rocky Grove High School, class of 1943. He had been employed at Patton State Hospital in San Bernardino, CA for ten years until his retirement in 1998. He had also been employed at Kaiser Steel in Fontana, CA for over twenty years. In his earlier years, he had been employed at Grand Valley Manufacturing in Titusville.
Mr. Beers was a member of the Titusville Free Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Cleo J. Ross Post No. 368 American Legion.
He enjoyed watching car racing; fishing; and stamp and coin collecting. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Mr. Beers is survived by three children; Noel A. Beers of Sharon, PA, Gladys Sharp and her husband Tom of Titusville, and Lowell A. Beers and his wife Cindy of Ft. Mill, SC; 7 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Margery Fox Beers.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be conducted from the Titusville Free Methodist Church on Wednesday at 1:30 PM with Rev. Timothy Maybray, and Pastor Cathy Mathos of the Fellowship of Believers Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Union Cemetery with full military rites.
