Obituary of Dan E. Watson
Dan E. Watson, 76, of 23200 Bryner Rd. Pleasantville, died Wednesday afternoon September 14, 2011 at the Titusville Area Hospital.Dan was born on September 23, 1934 at Franklin, PA, a son of the late Clarence and Lois Schuler Watson. He was married to Darlene Bryner on November 24, 1956.
Dan was a graduate of the Pleasantville High School, class of 1953. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict on June 30, 1954 at Cleveland, OH. He was honorably discharged on April 1, 1956 at Camp Lejeune, NC with the rank of corporal. Following his service, he returned home and attended Clarion State Teachers School, graduating from there in 1962.
He had been a teacher with the Oil City School District from 1962 until his retirement in 1992.
Dan enjoyed bowling, golfing, hunting, gardening, and baseball. He was manager of his son’s little league teams and former coach of the Oil City High School baseball team. He also coached his grandchildren.
Dan is survived by his wife of Pleasantville; three children, Duane B. “Duey” Watson and his wife Jane, Barry A. Watson and his friend Carie Hinkle, and Celene K. Watson, all of Pleasantville; four grandchildren, Abigail J. Popescu and husband Dr. Cristian Popescu of Titusville, Eliza E. Watson of Mt. Pleasant, TX, Jarrett D. Watson and companion Dr. Erin Sullivan of Sewickly, and Cameron A. Watson of Pleasantville; a great granddaughter, Octavia Popescu; a brother, Dean Watson and wife Carolyn of Oil City; a sister, Mary Burt and husband Joe of Pleasantville; a three sister-in-laws, Jean Watson of Riceville, Carol Bryner of Smithfield, KY, and Evelyn Bickel of Meadville; two brother-in-laws, Bruce Bryner of Hamburg, PA and Larry Bryner and wife Jean of Seattle, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, Don “Lefty” Watson; a brother, DeWayne “Fred” Watson; brother-in-laws, Don Bryner, George Nosker, George Bickel and Art Covell; sister-in-laws, Marcie Covell and Edith Bryner; and nieces Lea Burt, Teri Bryner and Brenna Bryner.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville today (Friday) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM and attend the funeral service there on Saturday at 11:00 AM with Rev. Donald Russell, pastor of the Pleasantville United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Jerusalem Corners Cemetery.
