Obituary of Harry K. Caldwell
Mr. Harry K. Caldwell, 76, of 2033 Buxton Rd. Titusville, died Saturday evening September 24, 2011 at the Titusville Area Hospital.Mr. Caldwell was born on December 30, 1934 at Marienville, PA, a son of the late Kahle and Hazel Kahle Caldwell.
He was married to his loving wife Marie Guth of Oil City on June 2, 1956 in Oil City. They were married for 54 years. She recently went to the home of our Lord on April 26, 2011.
Mr. Caldwell was a graduate of Colestock High School, class of 1952. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the United States Marine Corps. He entered the service on Jan. 13, 1953 at Buffalo, NY and was honorably discharged on Jan. 12, 1956 at Camp Pendelton, CA with the rank of sergeant.
He had been employed as an instruction surveyor in Chicago, IL for 11 years. He was later employed in the area at GKO, Allied Roll, and Specialty Machine & Hydraulics. He was employed at Joy Manufacturing in Franklin for 9 years and was a heat checker at the former Cytemp Specialty Steel Corp. in Titusville for 7 years. He was last employed at St. Titus School.
Mr. Caldwell was a member and past chief of the Cherrytree Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW, the Cleo J. Ross Post 368 American Legion, and of the R.L. Green Detachment of the Marine Corps League.
He enjoyed hunting and the outdoors, and spending time with his grandchildren and family. He was such a mentor to many of his grandchildren that they also became avid hunters and outdoor enthusiasts.
Mr. Caldwell is survived by three children, Harry R. Caldwell and wife Tina, Diane Bienio and husband Steve, and Tom Caldwell and wife Renee, all of Titusville; nine grandchildren; one great granddaughter; a brother, Donald Caldwell and wife Loretta of Titusville; a sister, Kaby Drake and husband Kirt of Titusville; a sister-in-laws, Midge Caldwell of Titusville, Donna Hoffman of Tennessee, and Dorothy Brown and husband Jess of Virginia; a brother-in-law, Austin Guth and wife Kathy of Oil City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Faye Caldwell; brother-in-laws, Raymond and Paul Guth; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Guth.
The family will receive friends at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the Breedtown Baptist Church with Pastor Gary Kinnear, retired minister, officiating.
Interment will be in Jamison Corners Cemetery.
The family asks that memorials be made to the Cherrytree Volunteer Fire Department; or to the scholarship funds of the Marine Corps League, VFW, or American Legion.
