Obituary of Mildred M. Howe
Mrs. Mildred M. “Midge” Howe, 92, was welcomed in glory by many who loved her and passed on before and will be missed so much by those she leaves behind. She was formerly of 125 Shamburg St., Pleasantville and died at 7:45 PM on Saturday, October 01, 2011, at her current residence in the Central Towers.
Mrs. Howe was born on May 11, 1919, at Stewarts Run, Forest Co., to the late Darious and Florence McKee Whitten. She married J. Marion “Stub” Howe on February 4, 1937, in Jamestown, NY. Mr. Howe preceded her in death on Dec. 24, 1998.
She attended Hickory High School in Forest Co.
Mrs. Howe was formerly employed as the Housemother for the TEKE fraternity at Waynesburg College. She was also employed by Singer Sewing Store in Oil City, Sylvania Electric for 13 years, and retired from Queen Cutlery in 1973.
Her greatest joys were spending time with her family and friends especially those with new babies, and playing cards and games.
She was a member of the Pleasantville Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon and Youth Leader. She was also active in the churches’ Women’s Circle Association, Secret Sisters, Kitchen Committee and participated in Sunday school. In addition to the church Mrs. Howe was also a member of the Pleasantville Vol. Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Titusville Area Hospital Ladies Auxiliary.
Mrs. Howe is survived by a daughter, Betty Lou Crisman and her husband Bill of Titusville; a son, Douglas W. Howe and his wife Pauline of Titusville; eight grandchildren, Lisa Hart and husband John of Chappaqua, NY, Kathryn Weagraff and husband Jon of Titusville, Karen Shoup and husband John of Titusville, Theresa Lewis and husband Dallas of Pleasantville, Tammi Wescoat and husband Randy of Grand Valley, Timothy Fish and wife Betsey of Titusville, Pat McCandless and wife Jill of Tampa, FL, Bill Crisman Jr. and wife Jennifer of Apopka, FL; sixteen grandchildren, Danielle and Nicole Walkerwicz, Tabitha, Abelin and Tia Weagraff, John and Casey Shoup, Ben and Jeff Lewis, Nicole Mellon, Nicholas and Michelle Wescoat, Morgan Fish, Evan McCandless, Samantha, Kylie and Garrett Crisman; two great great-grandchildren, Mackensie and Quinton Mellon; a sister, Marie Passaro and husband Joe of Warren; sister-in-law, Helen Whitten of Warren; and her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, George M. “Pete” Howe; two grandsons, David Howe and Michael Wescoat; and a brother, Lawrence Whitten.
Friends may attend a memorial service for Mrs. Howe at the Pleasantville Presbyterian Church on Wednesday at 11:00 AM with Rev. Susan Speakman, officiating.
Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Pleasantville.
