Obituary of Elizabeth B. Southwick

Mrs. Elizabeth B. Southwick, 93, of 40830 Buells Corners Rd., Centerville died at 3:30 AM on Friday, November 11, 2011, at the Golden LivingCenter in Titusville. She had been rehabilitating there for the past few weeks. Mrs. Southwick was born on February 5, 1918 in Centerville to the late Lewis J. and Nora Boyle Bradford. She married Alton V. Southwick on June 17, 1944 in Union City by the late Rev. Arnold Lundberg. She was a graduate of Union City High School and Edinboro State College. She taught in area schools for 32 years retiring as a reading teacher from Maplewood in 1988. Mrs. Southwick was a member of the Centerville United Methodist Church, Centerville Woman’s Club, Crawford County and PA State Teachers Assoc., PASR Retired teachers, Acacia Chapter #30 OES in Titusville, Friends of the Library, Reading and Literacy Council of Titusville, and Crawford County-Tutor for Adult Reading. She enjoyed reading, raising flowers and helping others. Mrs. Southwick is survived by her husband Alton V. Southwick of Centerville; two children, Kris R. Southwick of Sewickley, Renee E. Southwick Whitson and her husband Lloyd of Ashfield, MA; daughter-in-law, Karlyn Southwick of Stafford, VA; two grandsons, Kris K. Southwick and wife Alicia and Zachary C. Southwick both of Stafford, VA; two great grandchildren, Clayton James and Emory Paige Southwick of Stafford, VA; a sister-in-law, Rowena G. Bradford of Cranberry Twp.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Curtis B. Southwick; and a brother, Joseph E. Bradford. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St., Titusville, PA 16354 on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Funeral services will be conducted from the Centerville United Methodist Church on Monday at 11:00 AM with retired minister Pastor Gary Kinnear, officiating. Interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Centerville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Centerville United Methodist Church, 18679 Erie St., Centerville, PA 16404.
