Obituary of Mary Ellen Armstrong Gourley

Mrs. Mary Ellen Armstrong Gourley, 86, of 11144 Mercer Pike, Meadville died at 2:30 PM on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at the Meadville Medical Center. Mrs. Gourley was born on Dec. 13, 1923 in Salamanca, NY to the late Harry and Amanda Kennison Sterling. She was formerly employed as a waitress during the 60’s and 70’s at the Diamond Lunch in Titusville and worked in the laundry dept. of the Titusville Area Hospital for several years. Mrs. Gourley loved being with her family. She enjoyed gardening, photography, going to yard sales and writing to our soldiers over seas. She is survived by her husband Eugene Gourley of Meadville, whom she married on Nov. 18, 1987 at Mt. Hope; three children, Dorothy Lang and companion Charles Rodgers of Cambridge Springs, Rex Armstrong and wife Karen of Buena Vista, CO, Wayne Armstrong and wife Cathy of Titusville; two step-sons, Ronald Gourley and wife Patricia of Meadville, Thomas Gourley of Ocala, FL; 9 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 1 great great-grandson; a brother, David Sterling of Erie; a sister, Beverly DeNardo of Erie; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gourley was preceded in death by a son, William Armstrong; her former first husband Glenn Armstrong; a brother, Edward Sterling; and three sisters, Dorothy Proper, Ethel Whitman and Lois Sterling. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St., Titusville on Tuesday from 7 to 9 PM. Funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:00 AM with Rev. Harlan Nefstead pastor of the Waylon Baptist Church in Meadville, officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Meadville.
