Obituary of Gwen Doutt Speth
Gwen Doutt Speth, 81, of Rocky Grove, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 following an extended illness.
She was born August 18, 1930 in Polk to Robert J. Doutt and Eula Reichart Doutt. She was married to Bernard Clair Speth April 29, 1950. In addition to her husband she is survived by a son David Speth and his partner Barb of Columbia, South Carolina, a daughter Nancy Speth of Winston-Salem, North Carolina and a son Jim Speth and his fiancé Sarah Moreland of Franklin. Also surviving is a Grandson Matthew Speth and his wife Apple of Denver Colorado, a step-grandson Eli Moreland and a step-granddaughter Carly Moreland of Franklin. She is also survived by a sister Sally Doutt Robinson and her husband Chester of Burleson, TX. In addition she is also survived by an Aunt, several cousins, nieces and a nephew.
She graduated from Rocky Grove High School in 1948 where she was active in plays and clubs. She was an active member of Rocky Grove Avenue Presbyterian Church serving on several ministry teams. She was recently recognized as a 50 year member.
In the late 1940’s and early ’50’s she and her husband ran Speth’s Market in Franklin. She worked at the Exchange Bank in Franklin from 1949-1950. She then worked at CPT in Fort-Worth Texas from 1953-1967. Returning to Pennsylvania she worked at the Central Tax Bureau and Venango County Court House from 1975 until retiring in 1988. Following retirement she was a volunteer at DeBence Antique Museum.
She enjoyed playing cards and was a member of several card clubs with her close friends. She also enjoyed cooking and traveling and especially liked the Fall Season in Pennsylvania with the changing of the leaves.
At the request of the family there will be no visitation. A small private service will be held at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home in Titusville. Cards are welcome and in place of flowers memorial donations can be sent to Rocky Grove Avenue Presbyterian Church 321 Rocky Grove Avenue Franklin, PA 16323.
