Obituary of Basil F. Hummer
Mr. Basil F. Hummer, 90, of 46247 Cloverdale Rd. Titusville, died Wednesday morning February 29, 2012 at the Golden Living Center in Titusville.
Mr. Hummer was born on February 23, 1922 at Rome Twp., Crawford County, a son of the late Joseph and Ina Nason Hummer. He was married to Margie Sharp on August 23, 1944 at Diamond, PA.
Mr. Hummer was a graduate of Colestock High School, class of 1940 and had attended Penn State University. He had been self employed as a farmer for 12 years on their farm, which was a state designated Century Farm that the family had lived on since 1838. He was last employed at Quaker State Production, Pipe Line Division, for 24 years until his retirement in 1985.
Mr. Hummer was a life member of the Bethel United Methodist Church where he was a lay speaker for ten years. He also served on the Board of Directors of Union Cemetery for ten years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Jody Bruckner and husband Charles of New Castle, Cheryl Thurau and husband William of Oil City, Lance Hummer and wife Sherry of Titusville, Trudy Carlson and husband Steven of LaPlatta, MD, and Judy Lundberg and husband Brad of Centerville; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Marcy; and three sisters, Frances Hummer, Helen Proper, and Ione Hummer.
No public calling hours will be observed. A private funeral service for the family will be conducted Friday at the Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Gray, pastor, officiating.
Interment will be in Union Cemetery.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Bethel United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund or to the charity of one’s choice.
