Obituary of Frederick J. Holmes

Mr. Frederick J. “Fred” Holmes, 58, of 444 Davis Rd., Cooperstown, died at 4:25 PM on Thursday, March 15, 2012 at his residence. Mr. Holmes was born on October 20, 1953 in Dover, NJ, a son of the late Jesse and Nora Webb Holmes. He married Brenda Barker on July 1, 1972 at the Free Methodist Church in Titusville. He was a graduate of Titusville High School, class of 1971. Fred joined the US Air Force on February 1, 1972 and was an aircraft maintenance technician for 20 years. At the time of his discharge in 1992, Fred had been awarded numerous medals, badges and citations. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Tech Sergeant. Upon returning home Fred was employed by JM Manufacturing of Meadville for 5 years and retired from Con-Air in 2004. He was a member of the Wallaceville United Methodist Church. He was a former Cub Scout leader in Pleasantville which led him to organize and lead the Boy Scout Troop # also in Pleasantville for 6 years. Fred was active in his churches’ youth group and was an avid woodworker and fisherman. He is survived by his wife Brenda Holmes of Cooperstown; a daughter, Lisa Chaney of Erie; 3 grandchildren, Timothy Chaney a student at Gannon University, Robert Clark and Kimberly Isbell both of Cooperstown; a brother, Delbert Holmes of Oil City; 2 sisters, Mary Rodgers and husband Ronald of Monet, MO, Nora Holmes of New Jersey; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St., Titusville on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM and attend the funeral service from the funeral home on Sunday at 3:00 PM with Pastor Earl Dykes of the Wallaceville United Methodist Church and Rev. Sue Evans chaplain of the Venango County Hospice, officiating. Interment will be in Cherrytree Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wallaceville United Methodist Church 1375 Wallaceville Rd., Titusville, PA 16354 or to Visiting Nurses Association and Hospice of Venango County 491 Allegheny Blvd., Franklin, PA 16323.
