Obituary of Clayton L. Marvin
Clayton L. “Tuffy” Marvin , 86, of 41562 Thompson Run Rd. Titusville, died Monday, March 19, 2012 at the Golden Living Center where he had been a resident since March 4, 2011.
Mr. Marvin was born on July 21, 1925 at Titusville, PA, a son of the late Carl and Catharine Fish Marvin. He was married to Beverly Corey on June 20, 1949 at Oakland, MD. She preceded him in death on Aug. 23, 1991.
He was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army. He entered the service on Feb. 10, 1943 at New Cumberland, PA. He served with the 350th Infantry in Africa and Europe. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 30, 1945 at Indiantown Gap, PA with the rank of PFC.
Mr. Marvin was retired from Joy Manufacturing in Franklin where he had worked as a welder for 24 years until his retirement in 1987. He had also been employed at the former Struthers Wells Corp. He also delivered newspapers for the Titusville Herald and Erie Times.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a member and former Quartermaster of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW. He was a competitive runner and took 1st place in a 5K on his 76th birthday. He enjoyed raising homing pigeons for many years, hunting, fishing, and the outdoors.
Mr. Marvin is survived by four children; Raymond L. Marvin of Titusville, Jack D. Marvin and his wife Brenda of Centerville, Catherine Fordenbacher and her husband Steve of Mars, and Steven C. Marvin of Titusville; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond “Pete” Marvin; and four sisters, Deanna Stewart, Hazel Grim, Louisa Veda, and Dee Marvin.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home today (Wednesday) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM and attend the funeral service on Thursday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Mr. Thomas Newcombe, acting assistant to the pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Union Cemetery with full military rites conducted by officers and members of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW.
The family asks that memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church 216 N. Franklin St. Titusville or to the VFW 206 St. John St. Titusville, PA 16354.
