Obituary of Richard B. Meader
Dr. Richard B. “Dick” Meader, 73, of 500 Maxwell Dr. Titusville, died Friday morning April 20, 2012 at his residence.
Dr. Meader was born on May 4, 1938 in Titusville, a son of the late Harold J. Meader and Susanna “Sue” Knappenberger Meader Clark. He was married to Janice Faith on Oct. 6, 1962 in Kittanning, PA. She preceded him in death on Nov. 15, 1980.
Dick was a graduate of the Titusville High School, class of 1956, and earned his Bachelor of Science and master’s degrees in music from Indiana University of PA. He taught music at Titusville High School, Elderton High School, and Council Rock High School in Newtown, PA from 1960 to 1977 at which time he resigned to continue his education. He enrolled at Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg, SC from where he received his doctorate in 1980. He returned to Titusville and opened his practice here in 1981 until his retirement in 2000.
Dr. Meader had attended the First Presbyterian Church and previously attended Emanuel Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Titusville Lodge No. 754, F&AM; a member of the Titusville Lions Club; a Titusville School Board member for many years, and served on the Board of Regents for Sherman College of Chiropractic. He was also a lifelong Republican and member of the Crawford County Republican Committee.
He enjoyed golfing and spent many hours researching his genealogy.
He will be remembered by many for his unique sense of humor and his robust and hearty laugh.
Dr. Meader is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Faith Meader and her husband Clayton Edwards of Bishop, GA; two sons, Kurt Meader and his wife Alicia of Conneaut Lake, and Erik Meader and his wife Adrienne of Mullica Hill, NJ; seven grandchildren, Baker and Tanner Williams, Claudia, Alexander and Daniel Meader, Twyla and Lucy Edwards; a brother, Donald Meader and his wife Patty of Waterford; two sisters, Nadine Harrison of Titusville and Donna Anthony and her husband Wayne of Winchester, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harold “Jack” Meader.
No public calling hours will be observed.
Friends may attend a memorial service at the First Presbyterian Church in Titusville on Saturday, April 28th at 11:00 AM with Dr. Barry E. Cressman, officiating.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
The family asks that memorials be made to Hospice of Crawford County 310 N. Monroe St. Titusville, PA 16354.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St., Titusville.
