Obituary of Russell E. Hummer

Russell E. Hummer, 77, of Winter Haven, FLA, formerly of Titusville, died Sunday morning May 20, 2012 from complications due to metastatic cancer at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale, Florida. Russ was born on Dec. 19, 1934 in Titusville, PA, a son of the late Ralph W. and Leola Kerr Hummer. He married Patricia Jane Fay on June 23, 1956. She preceded him in death on Oct. 16, 2006. Russ was a graduate of the Titusville High School, class of 1953, where he lettered in wrestling and football. He attended Penn State University and also completed the Kellogg Leadership Program at Penn State University. Russ had been employed with the former PennBank as a branch manager in Pleasantville until his retirement in 1998. He was also in business with his brother Evan as co-owner of Hummer Farms from 1960 to 1979. Russ was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church. He was a former member and past president of the Titusville Rotary Club; former director of the Titusville area Chamber of Commerce; Rome Township supervisor; a member of the PA Farmers Association; past president of the Crawford County Farmers Association; and former board member of the Titusville Area Hospital. He enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family. He is survived by four children; Ron Hummer of Winter Haven, FLA, Susan Pearce and her husband Kevin of Brentwood, TN, Karen Hummer of Brentwood, TN, and Stephen Hummer and his wife Jeanine of Whitefish Bay, WI; six grandchildren, Chelsea, Matthew, Andrew and Caitlin Pearce, Ryan and Maxwell Hummer; a brother, Evan Hummer and his wife Lois of Centerville, and David Hummer of New York; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM and attend the funeral service on Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Gray Interment will be in Union Cemetery. The family asks that memorials be made to the Bethel United Methodist Church or to the Titusville Area Hospital. FLOWERS
