Obituary of Charles H. Messner
Charles H. “Chuck” Messner II, 72, of 127 High Street Cooperstown, died unexpectedly Saturday morning June 2, 2012 at the Titusville Area Hospital.
Chuck was born on January 17, 1940 at Meadville, PA, a son of the late Dr. Paul O. Messner and Rose Marie Seth Messner. He was married to Ruth E. Thompson on May 20, 1960 at Diamond.
Chuck was a graduate of Miami Jackson High School in Miami, FLA, class of 1958.
He was a machinist and owned and operated Sunville Stainless with his wife until his retirement in 1998.
Chuck was a member of the Diamond Evangelical United Methodist Church where he enjoyed volunteering his time. He was a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA); a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA); a member of the International Association of Machinists (IAM) Lodge No. 1842; a member of the Dukes of Hazard Club where he enjoyed attending conventions; President of the Sunville Cemetery Association; and former member of the Chapmanville Volunteer Fire Dept.
Chuck enjoyed going to flea markets; driving his antique cars; and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of Sunville; two sons, Charles H. Messner III of Sunville, and Eric Messner and his wife Deanna of Chapmanville; five grandchildren, Stephanie, Catherine, and Sarah Messner, all of North East, and Rebecca and Lukas Messner of Chapmanville; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Paul Messner, and an infant brother.
No public calling hours will be observed.
Friends may attend a memorial service on Tuesday at 4:00 PM at the Diamond Evangelical United Methodist Church with Rev. Terry Brown, pastor, and Patty Ghering, family friend, officiating.
Interment will be in Sunville Cemetery.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Sunville Cemetery Association or to the Diamond Evangelical United Methodist Church.
