Obituary of Delbert F. Goodwill
Delbert F. Goodwill, 79, of 13753 S. Goodwill Rd. Titusville, died Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at his residence.
Delbert was born on April 16, 1933 at home in Titusville, a son of the late Harold and Dorothy Beers Goodwill. He was married to Doris Gauthier on May 1, 1955 at Lowell, Mass. She preceded him in death on May 12, 2010.
Delbert was a graduate of Colestock High School, class of 1951. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the US Army. He enlisted in the US Army on April 30, 1953 at Pittsburgh, PA and was released to active reserves on April 29, 1955 at Ft. Devens, Mass. He was honorably discharged from the reserves on July 6, 1961 at Ft. Lawton, Washington. During his service, he was the recipient of the US Army’s highest peacetime award for saving the life of woman during a fire at Lowell, Massachusetts on March 17, 1955. For this, he received the Commendation Ribbon with Metal Pendant.
Delbert had been employed at the former Cyclops Specialty Steel Corp. as a heavy equipment operator for 40 years until his retirement. He had also been employed for several years at Boeing Aircraft in Washington.
He was a member of the Hydetown Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends.
Delbert is survived by five children; David L. Goodwill and his wife Brenda of Lima, OH, Donald W. Goodwill and his wife Julie of Mountain Home, ID, Marcie R. Seymour of San Diego, CA, Lois A. Hensler of New York, and Patricia M. Stack and her husband Mark of Titusville; 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; two brothers, Eugene Goodwill and his wife Charlotte of Erie, and Wayne Goodwill of Boynton Beach, FLA; two sisters, Rowean Hicks and her husband Richard of Union City, and Marilyn Davis and her husband Gordon of Mounds View, Minnesota; brothers-in-law, Dana Martin of Spartansburg and Ralph Howe of Titusville; numerous nieces and nephews; and his Southern Care Hospice family, Chris, Jen, Kym, Arlene, Rebecca, Joe, Cassandra, Cindy, Patty Ann, and Becky.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Marion “Doc” Goodwill, Michael Goodwill and Robert “Bob” Goodwill; two sisters, Mary Howe and Maxine Martin.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM and on Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at which time the funeral service will be conducted with Mr. Gordon Turk, officiating.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Full military rites will be conducted by officers and members of the Bruce Shorts Post No. 5958 VFW.
