Obituary of Clyde L. Hopkins

Mr. Clyde L. “Hoppy” Hopkins, 88, died at 11:49 AM on Sunday, July 4, 2010 at the Titusville Area Hospital. He had previously resided here in Titusville, Englewood, FL, and was currently a resident with his wife at Country Acres Personal Care Home. Mr. Hopkins was born on September 30, 1921 in Titusville to the late Samuel C. and Ina Connors Hopkins. He was a graduate of Titusville High School and Westminster College. Mr. Hopkins served in the US Army Air Force and was honorably discharged with the rank of Lieutenant. He was the owner and operator of Hoppy’s Sporting Goods from 1962 through 1984. Mr. Hopkins was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing in Florida. He is survived by his wife Doris Caldwell Hopkins whom he married on Dec. 31, 1981 in Titusville; two sons, Clyde L. Hopkins, Jr. and wife Christina of Philadelphia, Samuel G. Hopkins and wife Mary Lou of Titusville; 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, two step-children, Lori Riley and husband Jeff of Erie, Steve Mahan and wife Kathy of Panama City, FL; and a sister, Onie Fuller of Englewood, FL. Mr. Hopkins was preceded in death by his first wife, Sarah Grubb whom he married on April 17, 1944 in Titusville. She died on Aug. 9, 1981; and a sister, Leila Wheeler. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home on Wednesday from noon to 2 PM with the service to follow conducted by Dr. Barry E. Cressman, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. FLOWERS
