Obituary of Leta June Lake

Leta “June” Lake, 85, of 17167 N. Main St. Ext., Titusville went home to be with her LORD and Savior on Sunday, July 8th after a long battle with coronary heart disease. She was born on July 2, 1927 to John B. and Vivian Ditzenberger Shouey. At her mother’s passing when she was 4 years old, June was raised by her wonderful aunt and uncle, Joe and Irene Manson. She was a graduate of Academy High School (class of 1945) in Erie. June was married to the love of her life, Rodney W. Lake on March 27, 1947. He preceded her in death on January 15, 2001. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a loving step mother, Lena Shouey; brothers, John B. Shouey, Jr., William A. Shouey, Richard Shouey, George Manson; and an infant son, James Rodney Lake. June is survived by 3 children, a daughter, Barbara Lake Holmer and husband Arnold of Pleasantville, Rodney B. Lake and wife Susan of Titusville, Guy H. Lake and wife Tina of Cooperstown; 4 grandchildren, Aimee Lake Shaw and husband Ben of Ligonier, IN, Benjamin Lake of Titusville, Shannon Lake of Puyallup, WA, Lance Lake of Cooperstown; 5 great grandchildren who lovingly called her “GG” for great grandma, Andrew, Wesley and Nate Shaw, Hali Lake and Maria Whittaker; an aunt, Dorothy Adams and husband Earl of Erie; 3 brothers, Charles Shouey of Franklin, Larry Manson of Flagstaff, AZ, James Manson of Erie; 3 sisters, Ruth Wheeler of Franklin, Paige Cooper of Newbern, NC, Berdena Staaf of Central, SC; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. June and Bill were involved in the AFS exchange program and were the host parents to AFS daughter Marta Bustos from Chile in 1971. June very much enjoyed a wonderful week spent with Marta last year here in Titusville. June was known for her work at the Dairy Isle on the corner of Spring and Monroe Streets which she and her husband owned and operated from 1958-1966, now known as City Limits Ice Cream. She was also widely known for her many craft projects, quilting, embroidery work and making macramé chairs. Her hand work went to Chile, Sweden, Japan and Thailand. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St., Titusville today (Tuesday) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:00 AM with Pastor Barry Markle of the Cooperstown Community Church of God and her nephew Rev. David Lake of the Greensburg United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Congress Hill Cemetery, Franklin. Memorial contributions may be made to The First Baptist Church 216 N.
