Obituary of Herbert L. Hasbrouck
Mr. Herbert L. Hasbrouck, 91, of 46357 Enterprise Rd., Titusville died at 8:13 AM on Sunday, August 5, 2012 at UPMC Northwest in Seneca.
Mr. Hasbrouck was born on June 9, 1921 in Titusville to the late Albert and Doris Gorr Hasbrouck. He married Marian Stewart on April 24, 1943 in Baltimore, MD.
He attended a one room school house at Vrooman through the 8th grade and graduated from Colestock High School, class of 1940.
Mr. Hasbrouck was a veteran of the US Army having served in World War II. He enlisted in May of 1942, and was assigned to the Army Corp. of Engineers stationed at Southampton Air Base near the Arctic Circle. He was responsible for maintaining the equipment in 50 to 60 degree below zero temperatures as pilots flew “Over the Top” to England on bombing missions. He finished his duties at the Walter Reed Complex in Maryland teaching diesel and gas mechanics to amputees. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sargent Tech 5 in December of 1945.
He was the founder of Hasbrouck Sand and Gravel Inc. which began as he and Marian purchased their current farm in Enterprise in May of 1946. The small gravel pit located on the farm provided bank run material to the city and local townships. A crushing and screening plant was constructed in 1948. During the 1950’s land in Hydetown Borough was secured and adjoined the area which is now the site of the plant for washing and screening all grades of stone and sand for Penn Dot, local contractors and sub-contracting work done by the Hasbrouck firm. In 1962 Titusville Supply was purchased from McNierney’s located on Arch Street. The Hydetown Yard became the site of the new and current concrete plant. Much credit and praise is given to the four generations of family that have worked together during the time of Herb’s illness.
Herb is survived by his wife of 69 years, Marian Hasbrouck of Titusville; two children, Janice McCasland of Denver, CO, Bruce Hasbrouck of Titusville; 4 grandchildren, Wendy Tritt and husband Raymond of Canton, OH, Bret Hasbrouck of Titusville, Paul McCasland and wife Jodi, Steve McCasland and friend Adriane all of Denver, CO; 6 great grandchildren, Chad Hasbrouck, Sarah Hasbrouck, Thomas Tritt, Victoria Tritt, Riley Jo McCasland, Logan McCasland; and a sister, Thelma Kauffman of Seneca.
