Obituary of George A. Yochum

George A. Yochum, 86, of 144 S. Main St. Pleasantville, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning August 14, 2012 at St. Vincent Health Center in Erie. George was born on Nov. 6, 1925 at Townville, PA, a son of the late Gerdon and Avis Church Yochum. He was married to Margie M. Gustafson on July 23, 1951 at Oakland, MD. She preceded him in death on Sept. 30, 2007. George was a graduate of the Townville High School class of 1944. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army. He entered the service on May 19, 1944 at Erie, PA. He served with the 764th Army Air Force Unit. He was honorable discharged on June 19, 1946 at Ft. Dix, NJ with the rank of corporal. He had worked in the shipping department at the former Wolf’s Head Refinery in Reno for over 36 years until his retirement in 1986. He had also been self-employed and well known for his work as a cable television repairman in the Pleasantville area. He also delivered newspapers in Pleasantville for the Titusville Herald. George was a member of the Pleasantville Presbyterian Church; a member of the Bruce Shorts Post No. 5958 VFW; a member of the Union City American Legion; a member of the former IOOF Titusville Lodge; and a member of the former Pleasantville Lions Club. He was a member of the Oil Region Antique Car Club. George was the proud owner of a 1939 Olds which earned him many awards. He enjoyed attending car shows and tinkering in the garage. He is survived by a son, Rodney G. Yochum and his wife Sherree of Pleasantville; two grandsons, Kristopher G. Yochum, and Michael W. Yochum and his wife Jennifer, all of Pleasantville; two great grandchildren, Mackenzie Yochum and Arik Yochum; a brother, Gaylord Yochum and his wife Nancy of Winter Park, FLA; a sister, Janet Crawford of Townville; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Terry Kay Yochum; a great grandson, Kaden Kemp Yochum; a brother, Kenneth Yochum; and a sister, Marie Yochum. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be conducted on Friday at 11:00 AM at the Pleasantville Presbyterian Church with Rev. Susan Speakman, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Jerusalem Corners Cemetery with full military rites conducted by officers and members of the Bruce Shorts Post No. 5958 VFW. The family asks that memorials may be made to the Pleasantville Presbyterian Church; the Pleasantville Volunteer Fire Dept.; or to the Soup Kitchen at St. James Memorial Episcopal Church. FLOWERS
