Obituary of William W. Wall

William W. Wall, 88, of 9 Wabash Ave. Oil City, died Thursday, October 4, 2012 at the Oil City Presbyterian Home. Mr. Wall was born on May 8, 1924 at Pittsburgh, PA, a son of the late Charles and Esther Short Wall. He was married to Marilyn Hildum on July 28, 1967 at Winchester, VA. She preceded him in death on July 9, 1997. Mr. Wall was a graduate of South Hills High School, class of 1941. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army. He entered the service on March 22, 1943 at Ft. George G. Meade, Maryland and served with the 68th Air Service Group 14th Air Force at Kunming China with the Flying Tigers. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, and Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with two bronze stars. He was honorably discharged on December 31, 1945 at Indiantown Gap, PA with the rank of sergeant. He served in the Army Air Force reserves from 1945 until his discharge on Dec. 30, 1948. Mr. Wall had been employed by Howard Johnson Motor Lodges at Sarasota, FLA as a manager for 20 years until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of the Diamond Evangelical United Methodist Church and a life member of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW in Titusville. He enjoyed woodworking. Mr. Wall is survived by two sons, William E. Wall, Sr. and his wife Patricia of Centerville and Gary W. Wall, Sr. and his wife Kathleen of Pittsburgh; 6 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a brother, Donald L. Wall, Sr. and his wife Patricia of Pueblo West, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son Kenneth Wall, and a sister, Elva E. Clifton. No public calling hours will be observed. Friends may attend a memorial service on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at 2:30 PM at the Diamond Evangelical United Methodist Church with Rev. Gerald Miller officiating. Interment will be in Troy Center Cemetery. The Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville is in charge of arrangements.
