Obituary of Clair E. Goodwin
Mr. Clair E. “Tink” Goodwin, 89, of 119 Tinker Dam Lane Titusville, died at 4:45 a.m. on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Southwoods Assisted Living Community.
Mr. Goodwin was born on November 1, 1922 in Cherrytree Township, a son of the late Thomas and Mary Davison Goodwin. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Helen Sims Goodwin. They were married on August 12, 1951 in Titusville.
Tink was a graduate of Titusville High School, Class of 1941. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the United States Air Force. After enlisting in the Army Air Corps he was selected for the Cadet Program, where he trained as a pilot in B52’s and C47’s. After an honorable discharge he worked as a civilian flight instructor and in heavy construction in Ohio and Pittsburgh. He was employed at Universal Cyclops in Titusville from 1950 until his retirement.
Tink was a former member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. He became a member of the First Presbyterian Church in 2002. He was inducted into the Titusville High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011. He was also a member of the Cytemp Quarter Century Club and the Aero Club.
Tink never lost his interest in flying and was an avid hunter and outdoorsman all of his life. His numerous construction and building projects attest to his skill as a carpenter.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons; Dr. Thomas Goodwin and wife Kristin of Boise, Idaho, and Paul Goodwin and wife Dana of Snellville, Georgia; six grandsons, Brian, Matthew, Jesse, Evan, Will, and Ethan; and two step-grandsons, Kyler and Cameron Daron. He is also survived by a step-sister, Bess Wilcox Weld and step-niece Jane Wilcox Koszalka of Florida; step-nephews, David and George Wilcox of Titusville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Glen Wilcox; a sister, Evelyn Goodwin Hurlburt; a step-brother, Warren Wilcox and a sister-in-law, Virginia Happ Wilcox.
No public calling hours will be observed. Friends may attend the funeral service on Thursday at 11 AM at the Gordon B. Garrrett Funeral Home with Mrs. Jacqueline Wagner officiating.
Interment will be in Sunville Cemetery.
The family asks that memorials be made to the Titusville High School Alumni Office for the Clair and Helen Goodwin Scholarship Fund.
