Obituary of Hazel W. Steffens

Mrs. Hazel W. Steffens, 92, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, July 18, 2010. She was formerly of Grand Valley & Kane and had resided for the past year at the Rouse Home in Youngsville. Mrs. Steffens was born on September 15, 1917 in Enterprise to the late Carl and Fannie Bills Wright. She was married to Frank Steffens on September 27, 1939. Mr. Steffens preceded her in death on September 15, 2000. She attended schools in Enterprise and graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1934. She also attended Frances Butler Business School in Pleasantville. Mrs. Steffens was a loving homemaker, an office manager for her husband’s business, and worked as a cook at Webers Restaurant, Grand Valley School cafeteria and in the kitchen at Wesley Woods. She was a faithful member of the Grand Valley United Methodist Church where she maintained perfect attendance for over 50 years. After her children were grown, she and Mr. Steffen’s were loving foster parents to many. She enjoyed gardening with her husband until they were both in their late 70’s. God and her family were the highlights of her life. Although small in size, she was so big at heart. Mrs. Steffens is survived by a daughter, Lenora (Robert) Wencil of Grand Valley; 6 grandchildren, Laurie (Kevin) Rulander, David (Anna)Wencil, Linda (Chad) Abbott, Dennis (Sue) Wencil, James (Becky) Hillman, Jami Hillman; 13 great grandchildren, Kristi Fox, Kristi (Mike)Eck, Tom (Carrie)Vorse, Kellie (Dave)Farnsworth, James (Sarah)Wencil, William (Angela)Wencil, Robert (Carolyne)Wencil, Jessica Wencil, Triston Hillman, Sierra Hillman, Hailey Hillman, Garret Abbott and Logan Abbott; 7 great great-grandchildren, Dalton Adams, Justin Eck, Konnor Eck, Rachel Farnsworth, Abigail Wencil, Daniel Wencil, Karley Wencil; and her baby brother, Walter (Shirley)Wright of Mansfield, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathryn Hillman; a son, Thomas Lee Steffens who died in infancy; son-in-law, James Hillman; 4 brothers, Donald Wright, Ford Wright, Paul Wright, and Gene Wright; and 6 sisters, Mabel Fenstermaker, Helen Tanner, Dorothy Wright, Eva Crawford, Florence Wright and Eleanor Gates. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St., Titusville today (Tuesday) from 7 to 9 PM. Further visitation will be at the Grand Valley United Methodist Church on Wednesday from 10 to 11 AM with the service to follow conducted by Rev. Ralph Culp. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Pleasantville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Valley United Methodist Church or the Enterprise United Methodist Church. FLOWERS
