Obituary of Tressa Battin
Mrs. Tressa Battin, 96, of 533 LeBoeuf Trail Road passed peacefully from this life at 3:43 p.m., Sunday, October 21, 2012 at home with her daughters at her side.
She was born on October 29, 1915 in Southwest Township, Warren County, PA, a daughter of the late Thomas B. and Caroline Dahl Gifford. She was a graduate of Pleasantville High School, class of 1933. She was married to Murray L. Battin on November 22, 1938 in Franklin, PA by Rev. S.S. Clark. He preceded her in death on November 26, 2007.
For many years she was well known for her baked goods which she sold at the Titusville Farmer’s Market. Later, she was employed at the Titusville Hospital in the Dietary Department for 15 years. She retired November 1, 1979.
Mrs. Battin loved her family and was an excellent cook. She also knitted hundreds of baby sweaters through the years.
Mrs. Battin was a charter member of the Chapmanville Community Church where she had once served in the Ladies Missionary Society and in some children’s ministries. She also served as communion steward for many years.
She is survived by a son, Roger G. Battin, and his wife Norma of Titusville, and two daughters, Carol Battin and Janet Battin both of Titusville. Four grandchildren Kirk Battin and his wife Leslie of Centerville, Todd Battin of Meadville, Holly Battin of Meadville, and Heather Cook and her husband Dan of Seaford, Delaware. Eight great-grandchildren Kylie and Doug Atteberry of Frederickburg, Virginia, Natalie Battin of Centerville, Devin and Kelly Beers of Boswell, Pennsylvania, Bryce Beers of Meadville, Logan Battin of Townville, Brooke Battin of Townville, Bradley Cook of Seaford, Delaware, and Matthew Cook of Seaford, Delaware and some nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by three brothers, Everell Gifford, Glenn Gifford, and Enos Gifford, and four sisters, Mrs. Sarah Rudy, Mrs. Mabel Wescoat, Mrs. Lena Liberty, and Mrs. Helen Maziarz.
Relatives and friends will be received at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home Wednesday, October 24th, from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. and attend the funeral service on Thursday, October 25th at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapmanville Community Church with Pastor Glen VanCise of the Chapmanville Community Church officiating. Interment will be in the Chapmanville Cemetery.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Chapmanville Community Church or to a charity of one’s choice.
