Obituary of Jean K. Prather
Mrs. Jean K. Prather, 78, formerly of Taylor Stand Rd., Centerville died at 4:15 PM on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at the Homestead Hearth Personal Care Home in Centerville.
Mrs. Prather was born on January 7, 1934, in Oneonta, NY to the late Garth K. and Pearl L. Storm Koch. She married Earl M. Prather on April 2, 1955. Mr. Prather preceded her in death on October 15, 2010.
She was the Valedictorian of Logan High School, class of 1951 in Logan, West Virginia, and graduate of Slippery Rock State College in 1955, with a degree in elementary education.
Mrs. Prather began her teaching career with the Titusville Area School District at Colestock Annex where she taught 3rd grade for 6 years and also at Hydetown Elementary and Elm Street School. She spent the last 20 years of her career teaching 5th and 6th grade at Maplewood Elementary School for the Penncrest School District.
She was a member of the Presque Isle National Audubon Society in Erie and the Centerville Community Baptist Church where she also sang in the choir, played the piano, taught Sunday school and was a clerk for the church.
Mrs. Prather is survived by four children, Lynne Ellen Fabian and her husband Kenneth, Wendy Elaine Prather both of Grayson, GA, Kenneth Erwin Prather and wife Roberta of Salem, Mass, Douglas Earl Prather and wife Darlene of Jackson, MI; five grandchildren, Frances Fabian, Hannah Fabian Bailey and husband Mark, Rebecca Fabian, Heidi Fabian, and Amanda Prather; two brothers, Dr. Glenn Koch and wife Peggy of Havertown, Rev. Neal Koch and wife Ruth Ann of Huntingdon, W.VA; two sisters, Gail Stuhrke and husband William of Lake Mary, FL, Daun Van Osten of Westmont, NJ; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Keith Koch.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St., Titusville on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM and attend the funeral service from the funeral home on Saturday at 11:00 AM with retired minister Pastor Gary Kinnear and Rev. David Leninsky of the Centerville Baptist Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Centerville.
The family request that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Centerville Community Baptist Church 18736 Erie St., Centerville, PA 16404.
