Obituary of Helen P. Goodwin

Mrs. Helen P. Goodwin, 90, of 119 Tinker Dam Lane Titusville, died Tuesday morning December 4, 2012 at the Titusville Area Hospital. Mrs. Goodwin was born on July 14, 1922 at Basil, OH, a daughter of the late Earl and Lottie Snider Sims. She was married to Clair E. “Tink” Goodwin on Aug. 12, 1951 in Titusville. He preceded her in death on Oct. 7, 2012. Helen was a graduate of Liberty Union High School in Baltimore, OH, class of 1940. She was also a graduate of Ohio State University at Columbus, OH, class of 1943 majoring in Home Economics Education. Helen taught home economics at several schools in Ohio prior to her marriage. She also taught school at Bloomfield-Athens High School and Pleasantville High School. She taught last at Titusville Junior High School until her retirement in 1982. Helen was a member of the former St. Paul’s United Church of Christ where she was a Sunday school teacher and choir member. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church since 2002. She was also a former member of the Titusville YWCA and a former volunteer with the Titusville Area Hospital Auxillary. Her lifelong interests included reading, traveling, and enjoying her family. Helen is survived by two sons, Dr. Thomas Goodwin and his wife Kristin of Boise, Idaho and Paul Goodwin and his wife Dana of Snellville, GA; six grandsons, Brian, Matthew, Jesse, Evan, Will, and Ethan; two step-grandsons, Kyler and Cameron Daron; and two step-nephews, David and George Wilcox of Titusville. In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by a brother, Everett Earl Sims. No public calling hours will be observed. A memorial service will be announced later this month. Interment will be in Sunville Cemetery. The family asks that memorials be made to the Titusville High School Alumni Office for the Clair and Helen Goodwin Scholarship Fund.
