Obituary of William J. Miller

William J. Miller, 86, of 8281 Lesh Road Titusville, died unexpectedly Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at his residence. Bill was born on May 7, 1926 at Centerville, PA, a son of the late Michael and Ruth Farmin Miller. He was married to Genevieve Niedbala on Feb. 26, 1949 at Dunkirk, NY. She preceded him in death on April 1, 1997. Bill was a graduate of the Titusville High School, class of 1944. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Navy as an electricians mate from 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1946. He had been employed at Western Electric; General Electric in Erie; 20 years at the former Struthers Wells Corp. in Titusville until it’s closing at which time he went to work for the former Cyclops Specialty Steel Corp. from where he retired in 1991. He was a life member of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW; a member of ARRL (American Radio Relay League); and a member of EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association). He was an avid golfer and enjoyed taking care of the family farm and gardening. He is survived by three sons, William J. Miller, Jr. and wife Sam of Mansfield, TN, Robert M. Miller of Titusville, and Gene Miller and wife Kelli of Jensen Beach, FLA; four great grandchildren, Geoffrey Miller, Taylor Miller, Lindsay Knapp and Lauren Knapp, all of Parker, CO; two step great granddaughters, Jennifer Budd of Stuart, FL and Ashley Budd; two great great grandchildren, Jasmine Budd and Braelin Budd of Newnan, GA; his granddaughter-in-law, Becky Miller of Parker, CO; a sister, Doris Cook of Titusville; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Gary M. Miller; and three sisters, Phyllis Southwick, Nancy Miller, and Lois Hawkins. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM and attend the funeral service there on Sunday at 2:00 PM with Pastor Gary Kinnear, officiating. Full military rites will be conducted by officers and members of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW. Interment will be in St. Catharines Cemetery. The family asks that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of one’s choice. FLOWERS
