Obituary of Leo W. Sonne

Mr. Leo W. Sonne, 84, a resident of Southwoods Assisted Living Community, died Saturday, July 31, 2010 at the Titusville Area Hospital. Mr. Sonne was born on August 11, 1925 in Titusville, a son of the late Harold and Maude Lynch Sonne. He was married to Phyllis M. Lake on August 24, 1957 at St. Walburga Church. She preceded him in death on July 17, 1974. Mr. Sonne was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy, class of 1943. He had attended Gannon University in Erie and also the University of California at Berkley, CA. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army. He entered the service on Nov. 25, 1943 at New Cumberland, PA. He was honorably discharged on May 9, 1946 at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. Mr. Sonne had been employed at Abex Corporation in Meadville as the western sales manager for a number of years until his retirement. He was a member of St. Titus Church; a member of the BPO Elks No. 264; a life and charter member of the Bruce Shorts Post No. 5958 VFW; and a member of the Cleo J. Ross Post No. 368 American Legion. Mr. Sonne is survived by three nephews, Charles Porter and wife Judy of Titusville, Thomas Porter and wife Linda of Coral, Mich., and Richard Sonne and wife Sandra of Meadville; and a niece, Patricia Hudson and husband William of Hendersonville, NC. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Sonne and a sister, Jean Porter Markley. No public calling hours will be observed. A committal service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, August 7, 2010 at St. Catharine’s Cemetery Chapel with Fr. D.G. Davis III, pastor of the Titusville Catholic Community, as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Catharines Cemetery. The family asks that memorials be made to Benson Memorial Library 213 N. Franklin St. Titusville, PA 16354 or to the charity of one’s choice.
