Obituary of Hazel E. Chelton

Mrs. Hazel E. Chelton, 86, a resident of the Billie Brown Building Titusville died at 6:20 PM on Friday, September 18, 2009 at Hamot Medical Center in Erie. Mrs. Chelton was born on January 21, 1923 in Cochranton to the late Adam and Martha Iva Watson Mook. She was a graduate of Cochranton High School, class of 1941. Mrs. Chelton was previously employed by American Viscose Corp. of Meadville, Steer Dairy of Titusville and most recently with Hasbrouck Sand and Gravel of Hydetown. She retired in 1988. She was a member of the Hydetown Methodist Church and Titusville AARP. She also enjoyed flowers, crocheting Afghans for family and friends, and going on trips with other seniors. Mrs. Chelton is survived by one son, Robert McElhaney of Hydetown; four step-sons, Herbert Chelton of Nashville, TN, Richard Chelton of Conroe, TX, James Chelton and wife Helen of Hydetown, Kenneth Chelton and wife Mary Lynn of Sprague, Neb; one step-daughter, Mona Herman of Conroe, TX; one granddaughter, Nichole Tomey of Hydetown, and numerous step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond McElhaney whom she married on January 12, 1946 in Cochranton. He died in Dec. of 1966; her second husband, Rev. Lloyd W. Chelton whom she married on Aug. 7, 1968 in Hydetown. He died on Sept. 27, 1985; one great-granddaughter, Savannah Nichole Tarr; two brothers, Warren Mook and Russell Mook; two sisters, Blanche DeLand and Marjorie Lemmon and one step-daughter, Jeanette Beish. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St., Titusville on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Funeral services will be conducted from the First United Methodist Church on Tuesday at 11:00 AM with Rev. William Blair, officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
