Obituary of Rynd Jones
Rynd “Bud” Jones, 84, died Monday, September 21, 2009 at Titusville Hospital following a brief illness. Born December 17, 1924, in Mt. Vernon, IL, he was the son of Alvin and Ruby (Webb) Jones.
He was married to the love of his life, Imogene (Colwell), on February 7, 1947. They were married for 62 years.
Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and was assigned to the 14th Armored Division and saw combat in Europe during World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star for valor after rescuing a wounded American soldier who was trapped behind enemy lines.
Following the war, he relocated to Titusville. He was initially employed with Struthers Wells and later at Universal Cyclops where he worked for 32 years, until his retirement in 1987.
He and Imogene later drove a school bus for special needs students in the Titusville Schools where he never missed a day of work. He retired from driving in 2007.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Titusville where he served as an usher, the Lion¹s Club where he held numerous volunteer roles including that of “Buddy” the clown, the VFW and the Elder Statesmen Golf Club. He was a passionate fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, a following he began as a boy in Illinois.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Randy and his wife Carol of Kingsville, Ohio. He was a loving grandfather to his grandchildren Ian who attends college in Chicago and Emily who attends college in Portland, OR. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Pearl Colwell, who resides in Venice, Fl, as well as four nieces and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Neil and Harold, his sister Eleanor, and his brother-in-law Bill Colwell.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home today from 7:00 to 9:00pm. Funeral services will be conducted from the First Presbyterian Church on Thursday at 11:00am with Rev. Dr. Barry E. Cressman, officiating. Internment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery with full military rites conducted by officers and members of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, the Crawford County Humane Society, American Cancer Society or the charity of one¹s choice.
