Obituary of William F. Armstrong
Mr. William F. Armstrong, 89, of 537 Meadville Rd., Titusville died at 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Hamot Medical Center in Erie.
Mr. Armstrong was born on September 22, 1923 in Chapmanville to the late John F. and Faye Noel Armstrong. He married Dorothy M. Swanson on April 29, 1943. Mrs. Armstrong preceded him in death on August 24, 2003.
William was a graduate of Sunville High School class of 1939 and completed the 12th grade graduating from Titusville High School class of 1940.
He was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army. He entered the service on May 24, 1943, in Erie and served with the 9206th Technical Service Unit, Transportation Corps Detachment. He was honorably discharged on March 21, 1946, from Fort George Meade, MD with the rank of Sergeant.
Mr. Armstrong was employed by the US Postal Service where he was a rural letter carrier for 35 years. He was also a self-employed carpenter for many years.
He was a charter member of the Chapmanville Vol. Fire Department.
Bill was immensely proud to be the father of four daughters and loved by his family. He also enjoyed planting his vegetable garden.
After retirement Bill and Dorothy spent many wonderful winters in their second home on Anna Maria Island in Florida. They called it “Paradise.”
He is survived by his four daughters, Carol Proper and husband Blaine of Lancaster, Kay Johnson and husband Gary of Jamestown, NY, Marsha Roslanowick and husband Chet of Chapel Hill, NC, Sandra VanCise and husband Larry of Centerville; six grandchildren, Erik Proper and wife Sunny Lynn of Mechanicsburg, Alison Becker and husband Dan of Marietta, Angela Gross of Springfield, VA, Leigh Bartlett and husband Adam of Richmond, VA, William VanCise and wife Kate of Potomac, MD, Lauren Roslanowick of Chapel Hill, NC; seven great grandchildren, Blue Proper, Lolli Proper, Dylan Becker, Kylie Becker, Ava Gross, Ben VanCise, Alexandra Bartlett; and a niece, Susan Armstrong Lee of Oil City.
Mr. Armstrong was preceded in death by a brother, Clive Armstrong.
A private service will be conducted for family members at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St., Titusville with Rev. Glenn VanCise, pastor of the Chapmanville Community Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Chapmanville Cemetery.
