Obituary of Leon A. Smith
Leon A. Smith, 88, of 509 S. Franklin St. Titusville was called to be with the Lord on Friday, June 21, 2013.
Leon was born on April 17, 1925 in Titusville the son of the late Alfred M. and Pearl E. McCurdy Smith. He attended Sunville and Diamond schools. He married Grace E. Neely on Sept. 4, 1948 in Tionesta.
Leon was last employed as an inspector at the former Cyclops Specialty Steel Corp. for 38 years until his retirement.
Leon was a veteran having served in the South Atlantic forces in the US Navy during World War II. He entered the service on Nov. 11, 1942 and was honorably discharged on Nov. 30, 1945 with the rank of Gunners Mate 2nd Class.
He was a member of St. James Memorial Episcopal Church, a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Titusville Lodge No. 754 F&AM, a member of the Oil City Lodge of Perfection, the New Castle Consistory, the Cleo J. Ross Post 368 American Legion, and a life member of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW. Leon enjoyed traveling, reading and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Leon is survived by his wife of 65 years, Grace, two daughters, Dianne Knowlton and husband David of Choctaw, Oklahoma, Linda Feely and husband Carl of Cherrytree, a son Clifford A. Smith and wife Suzanne of Titusville. He has 6 grandchildren; Patrick Feely and wife Tracy of Seneca, Darla Feely Davis and husband Joe of Blanchard, Oklahoma, Amy Knowlton Dorn and husband Lee of Midwest City, Oklahoma, Nick Knowlton and wife Anastasia of Auckland, New Zealand, Clifford D. Smith ad wife Holly of Anaheim, California and Lisa Smith Deen of Titusville. Leon is also survived by 16 great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 6 brothers, Walter, Glenn, Thomas, Kenneth, Lloyd and Francis Smith.
No public calling hours will be observed.
Friends may attend a memorial service on Wednesday June 26th at 2:00 PM in St. James Memorial Episcopal Church located on the corners of Main and Franklin St with Rev. Samuel Williams, officiating.
Interment will be in East Troy Cemetery.
