Obituary of Carl L. Dougherty

Carl L. Dougherty, 71, of 21653 Neiltown Rd. Pleasantville, PA, died Monday morning July 15, 2013 at the Titusville Area Hospital in Titusville, PA. Carl was born on June 25, 1942 at Phillipsburg, a son of the late Carl and Helen Sorocinsky Dougherty. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict having served in the US Navy. He entered the service on Jan. 24, 1962 at Pittsburgh, PA. He served on the USS Mullinnix and participated in the retrieval of the NASA space capsules after reentry during the John Glenn era. He was honorably discharged on May 20, 1966 at Bainbridge, MD. Carl had been employed as a technician in the electronics industry for a number of years. He was a member of the Dubois American Legion Band, the Clearfield Community Band, the Mahaffey Band, and the Brockway Swing Band. He was an active supporter of the Clearfield Playhouse and of the Shaw Public Library. He was an avid Pirates and Steelers fan. Carl is survived by a sister, Joanne Haney and her husband Wendell of Pleasantville with whom he resided; a brother, Dr. James Paul Dougherty of Indiana, PA; a niece, Debbie Hopwood and her husband Mark of Titusville; and a nephew, Russell Haney of Pleasantville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother John Dougherty. At his request, no public visitation or funeral service will be conducted. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shaw Public Library or to the Clearfield Playhouse.
