Obituary of Wearne B. Cook
Wearne B. Cook, Jr., 69, of 111 High Street Cooperstown, died Wednesday morning July 17, 2013 at his residence.
Wearne was born on November 12, 1943 at Pleasantville, PA, a son of Mary Slater Cook Hollabaugh and the late Wearne B. Cook, Sr. He was married to Pearl Shoemaker on July 7, 1962 in Titusville, PA.
He was a graduate of Oil City High School, class of 1961. He had owned and operated Cook’s Garage in Sunville since 1974. He had previously been employed at Sanford Equipment in Titusville, Drelick Motors in Oil City, Denton Lepley Garage and Moyer Equipment, both in Cooperstown.
Wearne currently served as fire chief of the Chapmanville Volunteer Fire Dept. and was former fire chief of the Cooperstown Volunteer Fire Dept. He was a member of the Lucky 13 CB Club in Hannaville. He raced his own stock car at Tri City Speedway from 1973 until 1978. He enjoyed hunting and going to flea markets.
Wearne is survived by his wife of Cooperstown; his mother of Titusville; a son, Wearne Francis Cook of Cooperstown; two daughters, Dorothy Ross and husband Gary of Sinking Spring, PA and Annette Corey of Saluda, SC; four grandchildren, Jim Ross and wife Dannette, Jeff Ross and wife Melissa, Trisha Zenker and husband Kevin, and Jonathan Ledford; three great grandchildren, Quest, Zac, and Riley Ross; two brothers, Dale Cook and wife Sue of Centerville and Carl Cook and wife Debbie of Silver Creek, NY; five sisters, Mary Jane Dittman of Emlenton, Anna Mae Rodgers and husband Steve of Oil City, Karen Ohl and husband Joe of Titusville, Esther Seeley and husband Ken of Meadville, and Ethel Macormac and husband Bob of Titusville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Laura McCauley.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM and attend the funeral service there on Saturday at 2:00 PM with Pastor Glen Van Cise of the Chapmanville Community Church, and Pastor Terry Brown of the Diamond United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Sunville Cemetery.
