Obituary of Mark Silas Harvey

Mr. Mark Silas Harvey, Jr., 81, of 45991 Keyes Rd., Titusville died at 6:00 AM, Friday, July 19, 2013, at his residence. Mr. Harvey was born on August 12, 1932, in Titusville to the late Mark S. Harvey, Sr., and Vivian Clark Harvey. He married Virginia Elder on January 10, 1953 in Corry. He was a graduate of Titusville High School, class of 1950. Mr. Harvey served in the US Air Force. He entered the service on Dec. 29, 1950 in Erie and was honorably discharged on August 4, 1954 at Camp Kilmer, NJ with the rank of Private. While in the Air Force Mr. Harvey played on the football team and had the distinction of playing the first football game in Wembley Stadium in London, England. The team also played games all across Europe. He was formerly employed at Cyclops Specialty Steel Corp before going to work for Turben Auto Sales and Service in Corry. In 1966, he built and opened Corry Chrysler, Dodge & Jeep and ran the business for 32 years and retired in 1988 after the sale of the business. Mr. Harvey was a member of the White Oak United Methodist Church in Titusville, B.P.O Elks Lodge #264, Bruce Shorts Post #5958 VFW, and the Corry Masonic Lodge. He and Virginia wintered for 12 years at Lake Secession, SC. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and showed Arabian horses for many years. Mr. Harvey is survived by his wife Virginia Harvey of Titusville; three children, Denise Ladd of Apache Junction, AZ, Michael Harvey and wife Stace of Pleasantville, Sondra Wilson and husband Ron of North East; 8 grandchildren, Jesse Ladd of AZ, Ginny Mae Riggins of AZ, Emma Kate Riggins of AZ, Cody Hunter of Pittsburgh, Parker Harvey and Cole Harvey of Pleasantville, Anna Sveda and Kaylin Sveda of North East; a great grandson, Christopher Ladd of AZ; one brother, William Harvey and wife Loretta of Hamilton, OH; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his twin daughters, Raschele Harvey who died in infancy and Mischele Riggins; two brothers, Ronald Harvey and Wayne Harvey; and a sister, Winifred Harvey. Friends will be received at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St., Titusville from 1:00 to 2:00 PM on Monday with a memorial service to follow conducted by Rev. Jerry Gray, pastor of the White Oak and Bethel United Methodist Churches, officiating.
