Obituary of Florence Hazel Thomas
Mrs. Florence Hazel Thomas, 61, of State Hwy 27 Titusville, died at 11:07 PM Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at St. Vincent Health Center in Erie.
Mrs. Thomas was born on Dec. 25, 1951 in Erie to Lillian Whitmer Main Bortzer and the late Richard Main. She married James M. Thomas on July 25, 1970 in Titusville. Mr. Thomas preceded her in death on September 16, 2001.
She was a graduate of Titusville High School.
Florence was formerly employed as a finisher for 12 years at Queen Cutlery.
She was a member of St. Titus Church where she was a volunteer for the Tuesday Bible Study, CCD Classes, and making rosaries. She was also active on the Altar, Rosary, and Renovation committees. Florence was formerly active as a Eucharistic minister.
She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, knitting, crocheting, and making potholders.
Florence is survived by her mother of Titusville; two sons, Clarence Thomas and wife Pamela of Titusville and Shawn Thomas and wife Cheryl of Guys Mills; six grandchildren, Ariel, Courtney, Shawn II, Cassandra, Elizabeth, and Heather Thomas; two great grandchildren, Aiden and James Marvin; a sister, Delilah “Deedee” Swan and husband William of Union City; mother-in-law, Arlene Thomas of Titusville; a brother-in-law, David Thomas of Titusville; sister-in-law, Colleen Clark and husband Jeff of Titusville; and several nieces and nephews which include Robert Smith and wife Rebecca of Orlando, FL and Lillian Jones and husband Phillip of Union City.
In addition to her father and husband, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Clarence Bortzer.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. A vigil service will be recited on Sunday at 1:45 PM at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 AM at St. Titus Church with Fr. Walter E. Packard, pastor of the Titusville Catholic community, as celebrant.
Interment will be in Diamond Cemetery.
The family asks that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to St. Titus Church.
