Obituary of Samuel J. Ross
Samuel J. Ross, Jr., 81, of 583 Vorhees Road, Titusville, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2013 at the Titusville Area Hospital surrounded by his family.
Sam was born on September 22, 1931 in Plumer to the late Samuel and Viola Grant Ross. He graduated from Oil City High School in 1950.
Sam joined the Army in 1952, served during the Korean Conflict, and was honorably discharged in December 1960. Sam married Marjorie Servey in July, 1960 in Tionesta.
He worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad and Struthers Wells Corp. before working at the Oil City Post Office where he served in many different positions during his thirty-three years of service. He retired in November of 1990.
Sam enjoyed making maple syrup with his brother-in-law for over fifty years, farming, and working on cars and tractors. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching them play baseball.
Sam is survived by his wife, Marjorie, of fifty-three years; two daughters: Grace Ross-George and husband Larry of Oil City, and Bonnie Staub and Lewis Staub of Franklin; four grandchildren: Kyle and Amber Staub, and Sarah and Seth George; a great-granddaughter, Annabelle Staub; a sister, Betty Johnston of Amherst, OH; and three brothers: Edward Ross of Wisconsin, Earl Ross of Oakland, PA, and Maurice Ross of Florida.
Sam was preceded in death by a son, Richard C. Ross; a sister, Mary Ricke; and three brothers: Joe Ross, Charles Ross, and Robert Ross.
As per Sam’s wishes there will be no services conducted. Interment will be in Jamison Corners Cemetery.
The services for Mr. Ross are being handled by the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home of 303 N. Washington Street, Titusville, PA 16354.
